One of the main features of TalentBoost is the ability to create and manage job positions within your company. You can assign skillsets to each job position and, depending on the seniority, set the required skill level. Setting up job positions will let you allocate them to your employees and start building career paths.
To create a job position, navigate to "Careers" -> "Job positions" and then click on the "Create" button. Name the new job position, add its description and set a default mastery level for skill sets that the job position will include, and confirm by clicking on the "Create" button. You can also mark the job position as abstract, but we will explain that later in the article.
After creating the job position, you can assign skillsets to it. To add a skillset to the job position, click on the position's name on the list. The details window will appear on the right-hand side of the screen. Then, navigate to the section labeled "Skillsets" and click on the "+ Add" button to start. Finally, find the skillset on the list and confirm by clicking the "✓" button. Each job position can have multiple skillsets assigned to it.
How to create progressive job positions using position feeders?
For some roles in your company, you might want to create progressive job positions to differentiate between different skill and competency requirements - for example, junior, middle, and senior developers. To create progressing job positions, start by setting up the most rudimentary job position - for example, for a junior software developer. Then, create the job position that is higher in the hierarchy - for example, regular software developer.
Finally, instead of adding the same skillset to the job position, head to the "Position feeders" tab. Then, click on the "+ Add" button, select the lower level job position, and click on "Add" to confirm. The new job position will automatically inherit all skillsets included in the lower-level job position. Inherited skillsets will have the "INHERITED" label next to them. Please keep in mind that you can also add additional skillsets to the new job position.
How to use abstract job positions?
The abstract job positions fulfill a different role than regular job positions and cannot be assigned to employees directly. Instead, these job positions are designated to be used only as position feeders. For example, you can create an abstract job position designated as "Manager competencies." Then, assign skillsets to it to reflect the collection of all skills that every manager in your company should have.
After setting this abstract job position, you can use it as a position feeder for each managerial position you create.
How to edit job positions?
To edit a job position, start by clicking on the job position's name on the list. A window with editing options will appear on the right-hand side. To edit the name and the default mastery level, click on the "EDIT" button. Confirm the changes you made by clicking on the "SAVE" button.
To remove a position feeder from a job position, click on the bin icon next to its name. To add a new position feeder, follow the instructions provided above.
To remove a skillset from a job position, click on the bing icon next to its name. To add a new skillset, follow the instructions provided above. Please keep in mind that you can only delete skillsets labeled as “DIRECT.” To remove a skillset labeled as “INHERITED” you have to delete the appropriate position feeder.
